Our Chosen Charity
GFM is proud to be a ‘Business Pal’ helping provide ongoing support for Al’s Pals. They provide loving companionship, empathy and a listening ear to cancer patients throughout their cancer journey. Al’s Pals operate by promoting support within your hospital, home, in person, by phone, and in the community.
Who are Al’s Pals?
Al’s Pals is a service offered to all cancer patients in Milton Keynes. Al’s Pals is named after Alan Dumbell, who received cancer treatment at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH).
Alan often discussed having a ‘buddy’ to support and help him where he felt things were missing. It is his legacy to have a cancer buddy scheme like this and with the passion of his daughter and the support of MKUH, Al’s Pals was born.
Become someone’s pal
Volunteer at Al’s Pals today and offer support, companionship, empathy to any cancer patient from the start of their cancer journey through to the end.
Volunteers help patients by sitting and chatting with them while they receive treatment, talking to medical professionals with their consent if they are too upset to do so, signposting them to relevant services that could help them and their families, chatting on the phone in between hospital visits and more.
